Ian Hember

Who I am

I'm an archaeologist and public servant working for the Province of Ontario, Canada. I'm the Registrar of Burials and Manager of the Burials Unit at the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. As Registrar, I administer the parts of the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act that deal with burial sites and burial site investigations, cemetery closures and abandonments, and war graves. My work is focused on ensuring the dead are treated with dignity and respect, and I'm honoured to collaborate with Indigenous partners, archaeologists, and federal, provincial and municipal governments.

Talk to me about archaeology, human remains, modern regulatory compliance, mentorship and reconciliation.

This remains very much a draft, and I haven't fixed all the bugs or tidied up the code. Please be kind.
